FRONT YARDS IN BLOOM
The largest program of its kind in Canada, Front Yards in Bloom asks neighbours to recognize neighbours for their attractive front yards.
Yards can be nominated in three categories.
A 'Front Yard in Bloom' has an aesthetic front yard designed
with colour and character. A 'Natural Front Yard in Bloom' is a yard with a “natural” aesthetic, using native plants, and limited pesticides and herbicides.
An ’Edible Front Yard in Bloom' is a yard incorporating edible fruits and plants into the landscape design.
The Front Yards in Bloom program strives to meet these Goals

  • Recognizing gardening excellence in Edmonton;
  • Highlight the front yards that make Edmonton beautiful;
  • Encourage Edmontonians to appreciate the gardening of others;
  • Develop a friendly competitive spirit and encourage improvement;
  • Engage Edmontonians that want to make Edmonton more beautiful;
  • and Raise awareness of Communities in Bloom.

YOUTH WEEK 2013

Youth Week is an international celebration of youth held annually during the first week of May. It is a week of fun, interaction and celebration intending to build a strong connection between young people and their communities and to profile the issues, accomplishments and diversity of youth across the province.
Young people are important and need to be recognized in a constructive and positive manner. Their contributions need to be acknowledged and celebrated.
City of Edmonton Youth Council is planning diverse events and the showcase is the Battle of the Bands event on Saturday May 4 th in Churchill Square. This is a competition where junior and high school bands will have the opportunity to battle it out front and center stage at Churchill Square. This is a great opportunity for young musicians to be in the spotlight and to invest in our local youth.
